High School Growth Hour: Grades 9-12
Summary:
As students enter High School, we deeply desire that they would grow in their knowledge and love of the one true God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Our High School Growth Hour exists to invite students into a deeper knowledge of the God who reveals himself in His Word and what that might mean for their lives in High School and beyond. We seek to achieve this through a robust four year curriculum including:
Year 1: Dogmatic Theology - What doctrines does God's word call us to believe as Christians? This curriculum explores the deep theological riches of the Christian Tradition in conversation with our EFCA Statement of Faith all viewed from within the domain of the Scriptures. (This is the current curriculum we are working through)
Year 2: Spiritual Formation - How do the Scriptures call us to live as Christians, so that "we can live a life worthy of the calling to which we have been called?" (Eph. 4:1) This class zooms in on the Christian life, inviting students to think about their sanctification and spiritual formation, from a Biblical perspective and with the aid of faithful saints who have gone before us.
Year 3: Hermeneutics & Biblical Theology - How should we read and understand the Scriptures? Our third class dives into the nuts and bolts of Bible Study! From Genesis to Revelation, from a Garden, through the wilderness to a cross, and ultimately to the New Creation; God is telling us one story in His revealed word. This class equips our High School students to see how God's story impacts their own stories.
Year 4: Cultural Exegesis - What does it look like to live on mission as a Christian in the 21st century? The final year of our curriculum seeks to exegete our cultural moment to reveal what faithfulness to Christ looks like in our secular age. Amidst the divisive and divided times we live in, it is so key to equip our students with a deep foundation of Christians convictions and the tools to live those convictions out in the world.
We pray that these classes enable our students to be well-equipped to keep abiding in Jesus and make disciples as they embark into adulthood.
Please join us on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:15 AM in the Fireside Room. Students are encouraged to bring their own Bible and notebook!
This class goes on break during July and August each year to give our teachers some well-earned rest.
